From the acclaimed director Takeshi Kitano [Fireworks, Kikujiro] comes a bizarre, over the top and absurd comedy full of slapstick silliness and never ending gags. A great satire of Japanese society and popular cinema, Getting Any?, embraces the spirit of Kitano's early stand-up and television work and as such it offers a genuine inside look into his true personality. The story follows the nerdy middle age Asao, a professional daydreamer, whose one and only goal in life is - as the title suggests - to get laid. Asao embarks on a series of slapstick adventures in search of fulfilling his ultimate fantasy - making wild passionate sex with a woman. His holy quest for sex lands Asao in a series of absurd situations, involving robbery schemes, big movie productions, yakuza gang rivalry wars and scientific experiments. Getting Any? may be very episodic and perhaps even pointless in the grand scheme of things, but for those willing to go for it, it's a hoot from start to finish.

Synopsis:

The day that Pil-gi waited for so many years has finally come: he’s getting his own house, the last wish of his deceased father. And what a perfect house it is! Big, beautiful, isolated, next to the ocean and at that price, Pil-gi couldn't have found a better place. All is going fine, until some inexplicable event start to happen in the house. It seems that there’s an evil spirit claiming the house as its own. The village gossip confirms Pil-gi's worries. Each night is becoming a nightmare for him, as the ghost is doing everything it can to expel Pil-gi from living peacefully in his new home.

Then one day, an unpleasant accident happens to Pil-gi. When Pil-gi finally wakes up from his bad experience, he discovers that he possesses a new ability. Now he can not only sees ghosts, but can also communicate with them. It is time for Pil-gi to take revenge on the ghost that’s been haunting his beloved house.

Leung Chang (Yuen Biao) is a spoiled son who thinks he is the baddest kung fu master around--until he is pounded in a fight with an effeminate Wing Chun master (Lam Ching-Ying) who plays a girl in a traveling Peking Opera troupe. Realizing that his father has been paying his opponents to lose, Leung begs to become the Wing Chun master's student. The master, however, doesn't agree to teach Leung until another spoiled son appears--a Manchu noble seeking to test his fighting skills. THE PRODIGAL SON is one of the earliest films with Yuen Biao in a lead role. The film helped Yuen, one of the most talented acrobats of his generation, attain a stardom nearly equal to that of his "brothers," Jackie Chan and director Sammo Hung. For Hung, THE PRODIGAL SON is his second film to depict the Wing Chun fighting system (the first was WARRIORS TWO); both films are considered classics in Wing Chun cinema. Hung appears in THE PRODIGAL SON as a portly master of long-form Wing Chun; in comic asides, Hung also demonstrates two new martial arts forms, calligraphy kung fu and toiletry kung fu.
